I attended the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Level 1 course in Mumbai and, boy, was it an eye-opener. Up until now, I had thought I knew enough about wines to be knowledgeable/dangerous but I realized how much more I needed to know. The course material itself was well-curated but it was Sovna Puri who really brought the concepts to life. She is obviously an expert in her field and her knowledge and exposure ensured that the instructions did not get bogged down in mere theory. Like every genuine expert she is relaxed, engaging and has a true passion for wines and spirits. Saturday was a long day for me since I traveled from Chennai for the course but it was time very well spent.

I have a feeling these reviews are going to become a blog post. This time around, I am writing about the WSET Level 2 course that I attended in Bangalore. Quite frankly, I would have been perfectly content to keep drinking wine and making notes when I remembered to but, knowing that Sovna was going to be teaching the course, made me sign up immediately.
The course was intense and as deep as it was wide but Sovna really kept it all together and ensured that we stayed engaged and focused. I really like this curriculum because it helps you relate to what you have experienced with wines and spirits. For me at least, the AHa moments just keep coming. Having said all that, our educator was the person that helped connect the dots. There is no doubting her formidable knowledge and experience in the field but instead of intimidating, she engages and teaches. Its not easy to keep a class's attention for 2.5 days but she does so effortlessly. Thank you so much, Sovna. I look forward to Level 3.
Did my Level 3 in wines with Sovna, I couldn’t think of anyone else to choose to be my educator, guide and mentor through the gruel and intensity of this level and would hands down recommend her guidance to all those considering this biggie!
It was a hybrid module with the theory sessions online and the tasting in person which were very well spread with sufficient times between sessions to soak it all in.
The ease, patience, calm and clear guidance with which she conducts each online session(for which I had my inhibitions before, being online) made the subject so much more approachable and busted all myths in my mind against online sessions.
She left no stone unturned to clarify the smallest, silliest and vaguest doubts we had and always encouraged to asked on.
The tasting sessions were well planned with close to 50 odd tasting samples spread across 3 days, which was truly an enriching and satisfying experience under Sovna’s immense knowledge and vast tasting expertise.
Would have probably never got the opportunity to taste so many varieties all under one roof at the same time. amidst this all she ensured we were all well fed and loaded up on the carbs we needed ;).
The exam session was well organised and crisp and clear. With specifics snd directions shared very well.

Sovna is a great educator who has a lot of hands on experience and knowledge on wines and spirits which shows when she is conducting the course sessions. She ensures students understand each topic thoroughly and thinks/acts in the interests of students. I have been a student for two Spirits (L1 & L2) courses this year (2020) where Sovna was the educator. As a student and someone who is not from the world of hospitality, I realised that there are so many specific details that one is expected to know about Spirits be it the raw materials, production, bottling or even the standards followed by different countries around the world. Sovna explained questions which focused on specific sub topics in great detail. Her ability to remember such details is inspiring. I recently had an opportunity to be mentored under the guidance of Ms. Sovna Puri for my WSET Level 1 Award in Wine, supported under wing of Sula Vineyards.
And I have to say, it was an absolute pleasure learning from her. I've always preferred teachers who are direct, well in tune with their subject, communicating with a perfect flair thus helping me to never loose
my attention from the subject being discussed.
And that's exactly a kind of a mentor she turned out to be. The class went with a beautiful flow & all the initial fear & mental exhaustion that was troubling me owing to the pressure of wanting to excel perfectly in the course started diminishing slowly by the end of the class. My decision to sign up for the course was absolutely spontaneous with very less thoughts given. And my God! am I glad that I went through it.

I attended a WSET 1 course conducted in Mumbai India by Sovna Puri. She is extremely well informed in her subject and is an excellent teacher.
It is the mark of someone who has a command over her subject, that she makes it very easy for the students to understand. This is what Sovna is able to do. She doesn’t “dumb it down”....rather she explains the fundamentals in clear simple terms that I was able to grasp.
Sovna has taken me through WSET levels 1, 2 and 3. While the level 3 results are awaited, the fact that I could tackle level 3 at all, is testament to Sovna's superb teaching skills and ability. At level 3, one realizes just how complex a subject this is and how extraordinary it is for someone to not merely be able to master it - but to be able to convey that knowledge in a manner that is comprehensible and digestible to those of us who are novices in the world of wine. Ms. Sovna Puri recapped the WSET Level 1 course on wines beautifully in her one hour session by highlighting key points on each topic by displaying the most relevant information on charts. She explained every topic in a very lucid manner and gave tips and examples for remembering how to pair different wines with food and how to guess the grape variety when only regions are mentioned on the labels of wine bottles.
Although Ms. Puri is highly qualified in Wines and Spirits she has the ability to come down to a level and teach students in a very simple manner. Her dedication to her students is reflected by her conduct in holding recapping sessions on a regular basis and keeping them engaged with the subject and enhancing their interest in wines.
I wish there were more teachers like Ms. Sovna Puri in schools, colleges and every walk of life to educate students with great dedication and sincerity.

Hello, I am Nachiket and I am working in the hotel industry. I began my career as a bartender and have now transitioned into the role of a restaurant manager. Four years ago, I had a desire to pursue WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust), but due to my work schedule and financial constraints, I was unable to seize the opportunity.
Recently, I successfully completed my WSET - 2 certification from Sovna Puri. I was pleasantly surprised when I received my results, as I never thought I would be able to pass the exams, The main reason for my doubt was the lack of time for studying due to my job responsibilities. However, Sovna's teaching methods greatly aided my understanding of wines and the scientific processes involved. I am truly grateful to Sovna for sharing her knowledge and providing support. I know, I was absolutely eager to have future interactions with Sovna ma'am, and had a fantastic time when I attended her seminar at Prowein mumbai 2019.
Today again got a chance! as she is taking recap sessions for her WSET students. Which is really amazing as it is absolutely necessary to stay in touch with the world of wine , and we being Indian's and our social norms and taboos and restrictions, it's very easy for many people to fall out of touch with wines.

Having studied both WSET 1 & 2 in Wines under her, I can confidently say that her approach to explaining the A to Z of Wines is suited for every level of student from beginners to experts. Her teaching style is very conversational and she keeps the class engaged answering every question and query with as much detail and zeal as she can add. She also introduced interactive games for us to deepen our learnings further and make easy topical associations that become the backbone of our learnings. The flexibility to learn both online and in the classroom has made taking courses while working a part-time job so much easier. The classroom Wine Tasting sessions were extremely knowledgable, engaging, and always willing to help, not only with the course material but also in assisting students in creating a learning plan that fits their needs.
I was a part of the first online WSET Level 2 wine course conducted by Enoteca Madhulika from Bengaluru taught by Sovna.
Overall it was an amazing experience! I found it very interactive, economical, convenient and very well-spread out over the two weekends with each class lasting roughly around 4 hours each. Her passion for the subject was evident and extremely contagious too:).
I especially loved the way she made it a point to address every query in detail and conducted mini revisions during the class by asking questions relating to concepts covered earlier.

I did the WEST Level 1 Course with Sovna in March 2019. She has a relaxed teaching style and really engages the group. The whole day was structured really well with interactive sessions and a few games to help absorb all the tips and information shared during the session. This was a great course for a beginner to learn not just about wine tasting but also the theory behind different grape varieties, how wine is made, stored, served and matched with food. It was overall a very good and effective Wset level2 online session by Sovna Puri ma’am. WSET level 3 training was absolutely wonderful. We Learnt about the wine making and wines of all the around the world in depth. The theory and tastings have been very informative. Giving us more practical approach about wines.

Informative, time efficient, doesn't dwell on a detail unnecessarily and still doesn't skip over important stuff. Despite having a deeper understanding on the subject, easily distils information so that even a beginner can understand. A total engaging experience to be part of a session.
Sovna is an excellent teacher & well conversant with wines. I highly recommend her (for WSET Courses) to anyone who would like to scale up their knowledge. She is an excellent communicator with vast information backed with experience.

The white wine I tasted was very refreshing and I liked it I would really recommend it the red wine was a little off my palate so a little bit I didn't like it but it was also a good wine

Based on my close friend's experience, I am disappointed with the lack of responsiveness regarding the WSET course. A few weeks ago, my friend received a call from a lady representative of the institute, informing him of a missed call. When he inquired further about the course, she requested his email address, but no follow-up has been provided since. Repeated attempts to contact them via phone or WhatsApp have been unsuccessful, with calls going unanswered, messages ignored, or the phone switched off. This raises concerns about the institute's commitment to prospective students. If this is the response before someone even takes the course, I wonder if they will keep their promises after the course is completed.
